The Flotation Column Cell is an advanced separation system developed by KINC Mineral Technologies Pvt. Ltd. for efficient mineral beneficiation, fine particle recovery, and grade improvement. It utilizes the principle of counter-current contact between the rising air bubbles and descending slurry to selectively separate valuable minerals from gangue.
The flotation column operates on the concept of froth flotation, where fine air bubbles generated at the base of the column attach to hydrophobic mineral particles and carry them upward to form a stable froth layer. Hydrophilic particles, being heavier, settle down and are discharged as tailings. The tall design allows enhanced residence time, ensuring improved recovery and selectivity compared to conventional flotation cells.
Feed Introduction:
The slurry feed is introduced near the middle of the column through a feed inlet with a dispersion system that ensures even particle distribution.
Air Injection and Bubble Generation:
Compressed air or sparger air is introduced at the bottom through a micro-bubble generator (sparger system). Fine bubbles (0.52 mm) provide a large surface area for particle attachment.
Collection Zone:
As bubbles rise, they attach to hydrophobic particles forming bubbleparticle aggregates. The counter-current flow enhances the probability of collision and attachment.
Froth Zone:
At the top, the froth layer collects concentrated minerals. Froth depth is controlled by automatic level sensors to maintain optimal recovery and grade.
Wash Water System:
Wash water is distributed uniformly at the froth zone to remove entrained gangue, improving the concentrate grade.
Tailings Discharge:
Non-floatable material exits through the tailings outlet at the bottom.
